Prototype Solvent Exchange System
This system was designed to automate a tedious part of the aerogel production process while also working as a testbed for various process parameters we wanted to tweak to reduce cost, improve material performance and validate assumptions.
Working with the Lead Process Engineer, I took the lead on the mechanical, electrical and pnuematic system design for this project, while he lead the process design and programming. This project, which will be comissioned by Sept. 1st 2022, will have been one of the largest projects I've lead in terms of scope. Starting from process flow diagrams, all the way through running hundreds of wires and routing and running pipe, this was my favorite type of project: where I get to work on every aspect of the deisgn, build and debugging.
Major endevors in this project included:

learning the inricacies of electrical isolation to reduce sparking risk in hazardous areas

Creating a full (12pg) electrical system drawing packet, 3D CAD of the electronics and pnuematics pannels, and managing the population + wiring of the electrical system.

Managing CAD for the full skid, including welding and assembly drawings, and pipe layouts

Learning ladder logic programming and writing/debugging programs running on the automated system.
